27 May BRIANS ACHIEVEMENT
Today, 27 May, I had the pleasure of presenting a Certificate of Achievement to Brian Faichney of Huddersfield Recreation to commemorate him reaching 90 on the 18 May and still playing competitively in our 10-man league. These occasions are a pleasurable part of the duties of President, celebrating someone enjoying the sport we all love at the ripe old age of 90. Most of the recipients I’ve met over the last couple of seasons are still playing and chalking up wins.
I’ve known Brian for many years playing with Huddersfield Recreation, have played him a couple of times and I think the honours are even. This season he’s played 4 games, winning one but as I said there’s still plenty of time to notch up the wins this season to match his 2024 haul of 6 wins out of 14. However, today’s opponents Huddersfield RUBC didn’t enter into the spirit of the occasion and let him have another win, he went down to 10 with his partner Mike Hollingdrake but Brian can take comfort in his 10 chalks helped the team win the aggregate two points.
Brian is also a keen Bridge player playing at Huddersfield Bridge Club. He delighted in telling me that the club had moved to a more prestigious address since I’d given up the ghost of being any good at that game.
