10 Feb CONTRIBUTION TO THE KIRKWOOD
One of the writers last acts as President of this Association was to present a huge cheque to Judith Ambler of The Kirkwood Hospice.
The Association raised £1400 over the course of the 2025 season primarily from running the John Hoyle Trophy as the finale to our season. This year it was won by Andy Wike, the final being played at Huddersfield Recreations home green Moldgreen Conservative Club. https://www.hvba.co.uk/wike-wins-game-of-two-halves/.
John Hoyle was elected President of the Association in 2020 but unfortunately died in the Kirkwood Hospice only a couple of months after taking office. He had served 4 years as General Secretary and was an integral member of the Huddersfield Inter-district squad that won the league title in 2019. His family donated a trophy to the competition that has become the finale of our seasons since 2021.
Not only has John’s family donated the trophy but each year they generously donate all the prize fund, contribute many raffle prizes and turn up on the day to support the event and wish the proceeds to be donated to The Kirkwood.
There were several large individual donations made to the fund, Skelmanthorpe Windmill ran the Battle of the Sexes on their green and donated £240 to the fund and the hosts for the competition, Huddersfield Recreation, donate £100 and all the proceeds from the catering. Two raffles raised £281 and several smaller contributions came during the season as prize winners forfeited their winnings.
