IT was success all the way for Lowerhouse duo Andy Mitchell and Ashley Daykin in the Pairs Shield Final at Almondbury Lib.

They won the final against Netherton Con duo Paul Rangeley and Graham Brook 21-10 with scratch bowlers Mitchell and Daykin ahead from the first end. They quickly built an 8-2 advantage and although the Netherton duo had their moments – including a “3” that cut the deficit to just two points at 8-6 – they built an 18-8 advantage before easing their way to record their first Pairs Final success.

With Mitchell always leading well they accounted for 2023 Pairs winners Andy Carter and Steve Mallinson with a 21-7 success in the quarter-finals.

One of the highlights of the day was the bowling of Milnsbridge experienced duo Roy Sutton and Dennis Hirst who defeated Brockholes’ John Crosland and Michael Carr 21-17 at the quarter-final stage. The other Milnsbridge pair – Shaun Irving and David Whitham – were defeated by Rangeley and Brook 21-16 while 2024 winners Ian Lunn and Alan Stephenson were 21-16 winners against Ian Briggs and Andy Wike.

Mitchell and Daykin dominated the scoring against Sutton and Hirst winning eleven consecutive ends to lead 18-5 and then had to hold off a late fightback from the Milnsbridge bowlers before emerging in the semi’s with a 21-12 success.

Meanwhile, Rangeley and Brook defeated Lunn and Stephenson in the other semi-final. They had a “4” as they took control of a contest that they eventually won 21-15.
