20 Apr HAPPY 100TH GEORGE
On Tuesday 18 April I had the pleasure of carrying out a presentation to George Nash to commemorate his 100th birthday on 12 April. I was standing in for Frank Greenwood, our President, who is unfortunately in Calderdale Royal Infirmary with a bronchial condition.
Huddersfield Recreation organised the event at their home match versus Almondbury Libs and provided the cake enjoyed by all the players at the tea interval. I presented a certificate from the association marking George’s achievement and also some speciality beers as his favourite tipple so he could swill the cake down.
George retired in 1984 when he took up bowling for ICI Recreation Club, the forerunner of Huddersfield Recreation. It was good to reminisce with George as I was playing for the club at that time as was my father although I hasten to add I wasn’t playing in the vets team with him that won the Julie Fuller Trophy. Bob Haigh was on hand to record the event for posterity and capture George setting the first jack which was thumb peg in the direction of the steps down to Moldgreen Con.
There was a great round of applause from the assembled throng and everyone enjoyed the occasion.
