HUDDERSFIELD vs WAKEFIELD

Round 4 of the Yorkshire Inter-District Veterans league is on Friday 13 June with a starting time of 1.00 pm. Huddersfield take on Wakefield.

Huddersfield are handily placed in third in the league on 91 points, 14 points below Leeds whilst Wakefield are eighth out of nine on 45 points but only having played two games due to a bye in an earlier round. Huddersfield will, however, be  hoping to post a big score against them to close the gap with Leeds. It’s arguable that Huddersfield have had the toughest start to the campaign playing potential champions Leeds and Halifax in addition to new boys Aire & Wharfe who finished 2024 just a few points behind Huddersfield.

Should you be thinking that 14 points is a long way behind a reminder is required that there’s a total 56 points available in each game due to the points awarded for the aggregate score.

Huddersfield’s home team plays at Brockholes Bowling Club for the third time this season where they’ve had some excellent results. The team is John Bloomer, Andy Carter, Mick Chapman, Tony Cross, Robert Dickinson, Stephen Haigh, Graham Sigsworth and Andy Wike.  The reserve is Peter Kain and non-playing captain Frank Greenwood and manager David Armitage.

The away team play at Grange Park, Outwood WF1 2NS and the team will be selected from David Pollard, David Sykes, Derek Hewitt, Garry Senior, Malcolm Gilbert (captain), Peter Hopkinson, Roger Stopford, Edwin Haigh, Steve Mallinson, Tim Poulter, Adrian Cooper and Tony Butterfield. It’s likely that we’ll see a return to action by Malcolm Gilbert after his enforced absence for the last game.

The weather is set fair and both teams would welcome some vociferous support around the green.
