22 Aug KIRKHEATON CON’QUER’ VILLAGE OPPONENTS
IT was the bowlers from the Con Club who were celebrating success at the conclusion of the 2025 Subsidiary Team Knockout Cup Final at Broad Oak.
Billed as the ‘Battle of Kirkheaton’ the Con Club claimed a 156-144 success over their neighbours from the Cricket & Bowling Club (C&BC).
With the pairs on first the C&BC’s Geoff Pearson and Andrew Lodge were 21-15 winners against Mark Harris and Leon Wilczynski.
But the Con club had an eight-point advantage at the interval with Paul Scott and Ian Johnsey beating John Scott and Nick Dunn 21-14, a scoreline that was repeated with Brian Parker and Mike Garforth defeating Robert Boyles and Ken McIver.
When the singles were finished that advantage had been extended further. Although C&BC had a four-point advantage on the handicap the Con club bowlers had a 12-point lead.
Mark Berry defeated Richard Taylor 21-16, and Stuart Goddard had a 21-10 success over Stewart Naylor. But it wasn’t all one-way traffic with David Kilner a 21-14 winner against Giles Massey and, in the final contest of the afternoon Anthony Dawson had a 21-20 victory against Steve Mitchell.
A big thank you to our host Broad Oak Bowling Club for making available their excellent facilities and to our match referee Mr Ray Tunnacliffe.
