P&J MUFF ROSEBOWL

The final of the HVBA’s flagship individual trophy takes place on Thursday 11 September at Netherton Con starting at 1.30 pm.

Originally sponsored by the Huddersfield Examiner it has recently been renamed in memory of Peter and Judith Muff. Peter was very well known in bowling circles as the sports correspondent of the Examiner and was instrumental in ensuring that bowling received headline coverage in the local newspaper. Both Peter and Judith loved bowling and that love was reciprocated by the people they met in the sport.

The days line up includes Paul Rangeley, the current sponsor of the competition and a Netherton bowler who’s father won the comp in 1985. Paul plays Tim Poulter, the John Hoyle Trophy champion, in the quarter final. Also included in the line up is Graham Hirst, a previous winner, playing John Hodgson who can’t be described as a new kid on the block but this must be one of his first appearances on finals day. Robert Mudd plays Gordon Walker, both of whom have graced many finals days and finally Andrew Wike plays Paul Hartley, two players at the top of their game and currently playing at the top level for their clubs.

Netherton Con have hosted the competition recently and are renowned for their hospitality and with plenty of parking greenside the Rosebowl final is one of the best days in our calendar.
