2 FINALS AT WATERLOO

Tomorrow, 16 July, is one of the most pleasant days in the associations calendar and this year the weather gods are promising fine weather for both the Over 80’s individual trophy and the 6-man leagues Julie Fuller 3-pairs team trophy. All played at Waterloo Bowling Club which experience tells us will be ‘flying’, starting at 1.30.

The day kicks off with the semi finals of the over 80’s competition where 3-times winner Frank Greenwood (Golcar Libs) plays homester Roger Lunn in the first semi to t-off and Dennis Garner (Netherton Con) plays previous winner Gordon Walker (Kirkheaton Con) in the other semi-final.

On the conclusion of the semi-finals all three pairs of Clayton West A take to the green against Lindley Lib A in the Julie Fuller trophy. It will be a much different Clayton West team taking to the green than the team that won the trophy in 2022 when, only a few short years ago, second string bowlers were the order of the day in the 6-man league. Since then Division 1 of the league is much more competitive with top bowlers now filling all the positions and we’re sure that will be reflected in the Lindley Lib A team even though they’re languishing near the foot of the table whilst Clayton West are riding high 6 points clear at the top.

The Julie Fuller trophy will be followed by the final of the Over 80’s after the finalists have had a well earned break and no doubt some refreshments.

The day has traditionally featured both trophies. The Julie Fuller is now sponsored by Frank Greenwood and the Over 80’s by Pat and Alan Stephenson. The sponsors take it in turn to hold the final on their own nominated green but this will be the first final played at Waterloo in many years.
