07 Feb 2025 Handicapping – a new approach
A new approach to individual handicapping has been introduced for 2025. In previous years handicaps were based on a bowler’s division and every bowler in a division had the same handicap. Starting this year the averages information available in Bowlsnet will be used to award different handicaps within each division. As a result, more generous handicaps will be allocated to those with lower averages scores.
The new handicap ranges are below. They are also shown on the 2025 competition entry form on which entrants need only tick the range applicable to them. The Competition Secretary, supported by the competition sub-committee, will then assess each entry taking into account 2024 averages. A handicap will be determined and the entrant notified. Please note exceptional bowlers, with very high averages, may receive handicaps that fall outside the indicative range.
The new indicative handicap ranges are:
10-man Div1 handicaps between 0 and 3
10-man Div2 handicaps between 3 and 6
10-man Div3 handicaps between 4 and 7
10-man Div4 handicaps between 5 and 8
10-man Div5 handicaps between 6 and 9
For bowlers playing exclusively in the 6-man League
6-man Div1 handicaps between 4 and 7
6-man Div2 handicaps between 5 and 8
6-man Div3 handicaps between 6 and 9
