24 Jun 2026 TEAM KNOCKOUT CHAMPIONS
On Friday 19 July the Golcar Libs A team lifted the Frank Griffin Cup for the fifth time since the competition was introduced in 1973 and the third time in the last 5 years. They defeated Longwood Bowling Club who were on for a hatrick of wins by 135-112, 5 winners to 2.
The final was played once more at Kirkheaton Cons green which was again in immaculate condition and the organisation around the green was tip top. The Golcar captain won the toss and elected to play the pairs first whilst Longwood had the jacks for games 1,3,5 & 7. This turned out to be a masterstroke as each pair raced into an early lead and finished the first half 2 wins to 1 with an aggregate lead of 14.
Longwood were looking for an early break through in the second half but were dealt an early blow when Ian Briggs went down 21-10 to Robert Morgan with Longwood’s only winner in the singles being Andy Wike who beat Ian Brogden 21-8, by which time Golcar were home and dry with a +5 handicap to add to their match score.

Rob Senior, the Golcar captain holds the trophy aloft.
The Association will now be looking for a sponsor for a new, more ‘significant’ trophy for one of our most prestigious team competitions, a trophy worthy of such a prestigious tournament. The Team Knockout is one of 4 team knockout competitions play throughout the season and they prove so popular for both the players and spectators.
