SUB-TEAM KNOCKOUT FINAL

Thursday 29 August, 1.30pm at Broad Oak Bowling Club.

It’s just 40 years since our HVBA forebears had the prescience to initiate a trophy specifically for teams in the lower echelons of our leagues. In that time there have been some illustrious winners who have gone on to compete at higher levels and some who have unfortunately disappeared from sight, notably Newsome and Marsden Park. Zeneca may also stand out for new bowlers but they have been resurrected in the name of Huddersfield Recreation.

This year we have Division 5 team Netherton Con taking on Lindley Lib B of Division 3, Netherton have a 23 handicap start whilst Lindley are off scratch. Neither team have won the trophy before and our records don’t state whether they’ve appeared as runners up, for the record here’s the history of the trophy https://www.hvba.co.uk/sub-team-knockout/.

The format is our normal league format with four singles and three pairs matches. The captains toss a coin and the winning captain has the choice of either dictating the order of play or having jacks on the odd numbered games, 1, 3, 5 and 7 giving them a perceived advantage.

In recent years we’ve welcomed residents of Croftlands Care Home to watch the game. Croftlands are one of the associations major sponsors so please welcome them once again and let’s hope we have a spectacular in the sun.
