13 Aug TOP LOWER DIVISION BOWLERS TIME TO SHINE
It’s time to shine this coming Friday, 15 August, for 8 bowlers from the lower 10-man divisions and the 6-man league. The Lower Divisions Individual Trophy final takes place at Longwood Bowling Club starting 1.30 pm.
We have had record entries this year as bowlers who topped their team averages in 2024 were invited to enter. This has meant the final being delayed to accommodate more qualifying rounds and all the qualifiers were consulted on the date of the final.
Longwood Bowling Club stepped up to hold the final and we’re sure it will be an excellent venue. Longwood are one of the top clubs in our leagues and all but one of the finalists will probably not have experienced the green. It’s their chance to shine on the big stage. The bar will be open, refreshments will be available and we’d like to see a big turnout for another of the HVBA finals. Both the eight finalists and Longwood deserve your support.
The writers business has sponsored the competition for the second year running as encouraging all bowlers to participate in comps is very close to my ideals. Some of the bowlers who entered this year have never entered a comp before, and I know some who’ve also entered and had success in other comps. We have seen much higher participation in our leagues in recent years and it would be great to see if we could get competition bowling back to the levels not seen for decades.
The HVBA have worked hard to make finals ‘an event’. My ambitions are widely known and wildly exaggerated but we’d welcome ideas from the bowling community on how we can improve our events further.
