CHAIN OF OFFICE PASSES TO JOHN PEARMAN

This was the writers last official duty as President before he stepped back and passed the Presidents chain of office to John Pearman at the Associations AGM on Monday 9 February. The council elected John Pearman as President after Richard Armitage completed his two years as President.

John came onto the Management Committee in 2023 as General Secretary, a role he’ll continue to carry on whilst taking up the duties as President. The council also elected Alan Stephenson to continue as Treasurer and Paul English who is adding the League Secretary’s portfolio to that of Competition Secretary.

The Management Committee will consist the four officers listed above, Richard Armitage as immediate past President in addition to David Armitage and Peter Allen both of Hemplow, Tony Lockwood of Lowerhouses and Frank Greenwood of Golcar Libs. Alan Leonard, also of Golcar Libs had been co-opted onto the committee during the past season and was officially elected to the Management Committee at the meeting.

It’s felt that the Management Committee still needs to strengthen with the recruitment of some younger ‘professionals’ to share the duties of the officers for cover and also some ‘elder statesmen’ to offer advice on the running of a substantial bowling operation. The Association runs two leagues with 108 teams competing, 4 team competitions, 7 individual or pairs competitions and a squad that competes in the Yorkshire Inter-District Veterans League. That’s almost a full-time job for some of the officers!

If you feel that you could contribute you’d be welcome onboard, if you know of anyone in your club that could help please advise us or encourage them to come forward. If they’re capable or talented they’ll be welcomed irrespective of age or gender.
