06 Jul QUARTER-FINAL LOSS FOR HUDDERSFIELD
West Riding are hosting the 2026 Hickson Trophy which this year is being run on a knockout basis. 13 teams entered the competition but Skipton withdrew at the last minute not being able to field a full 12-person squad. The preliminary and quarter-finals were held on Friday 3 July and the semi-finals and final will be at Thornhill Bowling Club on Friday 10 July starting at 10 am.
Huddersfield were drawn against Wakefield in the preliminary round and won comfortably 234-191. Their quarter final was against Sheffield who won their prelim round against East Coast 222-204. Hopes were high for Huddersfield after the first four came off the green 2 winners apiece but with a 17 chalk lead. However they didn’t have a winner in the second four but at that stage only trailed by 5 chalks so the game was still there for the taking. Unfortunately it was not to be with only 1 winner in the last four and Sheffield won 228-209.
West Riding and Bradford were the other qualifiers, Leeds as the present holders had a bye to the final.
All the scores from last Friday were:
Prelims – Sheffield 222 East Coast 204, Huddersfield 234 Wakefield 191, West Riding 234 Harrogate 201, Bradford 217 Halifax 201, Barnsley 233 Castleford 166.
Quarter-finals – Aire & Wharfe 189 West Riding 220, Huddersfield 209 Sheffield 228, Bradford 217 Barnsley 183.
