09 Sep P&J MUFF ROSEBOWL
The HVBA’s most prestigious trophy is up for grabs tomorrow and it’s guaranteed to be a new name on the trophy. The start time is 1.30 pm on Thursday 10 September and takes place at Holmfirth Bowling Club.
The Rosebowl was first played for in 1971 only a year after the formation of Huddersfield Veterans Bowling Association. It was originally sponsored by the Huddersfield Examiner and renamed recently in honour of Peter and Judith Muff, both very keen bowlers, who bequeathed over £7000 to each of 5 different bowling organisations one of which was the HVBA. Peter was for many years the main sports correspondent of the Examiner and his reports are still referenced regularly by Paul English our league and competition secretary and Jeff Jacklin, one of the quarter-finalists.
Another first tomorrow, or at least in recent memory, is the hosting of the final by Holmfirth Bowling Club. The venue was chosen by Paul Rangeley who has sponsored the competition in recent years.
The line-up for the quarter-finals is Jeff Jacklin vs Paul Rothery, Mick Ward vs Mike Street, David Walkden vs Andy Lumb, Mick Chapman vs Edwin Haigh. A good day for the Michaels and three of the Huddersfield inter-district squads. The weather may spoil the day but it won’t spoil the bowling.
