ANDREW WIKE – LOWER DIVISIONS TROPHY WINNER

Andrew Wike of Huddersfield Recreation won the 2022 Lower Divisions trophy on Outlane Bowling Club.

Outlane have sponsored this trophy for several years now the last time being 2019 when Chris Sykes was the winner. This is quite a unique trophy in the HVBA trophy cabinet as it’s aimed at players playing in the lower three divisions of the 10-man league. Entries are not accepted if the bowler has played in Divisions 1 and 2 in the current season.

The finalists were John Bloomer of Almondbury Liberals and Andrew Wike of Huddersfield Recreation. John was off scratch as he’s a current Inter-District player whilst Andrew started on 3,

Andrew took an early lead and with his 3 handicap it looked as though it would be a walk in the park for him but John pulled himself back into the contest and lead 19-17 and it looked that Andrew had let it slip but a two at the next end drew him level 19-19 and the final was finished off with another two.

John had reached the final beating Craig Longbottom of Marsh Libs 21-17 in the quarter final then Ken Broadbent of Kirkheaton Con 21-13 in the semi-final. Ken had beaten Jim Turney of Marsh Libs in the quarter finals.

Andrew beat David Peacock of Milnsbridge BC 21-13 in the quarter finals and John Pix of Springwood BC 21-18 in the semi-final. John Pix had beaten Andy Broughton of Almondbury Libs 21-18 in the quarter final.

The green at Outlane was immaculate and they proved excellent hosts. Ray Tunnacliffe refereed the final day.
