BISTRO BROCKHOLES v LONGWOOD

The Bistro competition final is this coming Thursday 21 September, 1.30 pm at Almondbury Bowling Club.

All 60 of the 10-man league teams started off on the road to Almondbury in May and the climax is on Thursday at a new venue as Brockholes are the sponsors and usual hosts. The five pairs format usually serves up some giant killing acts but none as big as that of the Brockholes A team who are mid-table in Division 3 and have only played one team on their level, three teams from Division 2 and a Division 1 team near the top of the pile – Lowerhouses. The last two rounds against top level opposition where Brockholes didn’t need their handicap advantage.

Longwood’s route to the final has been much more comfortable, beating three Division 2 opponents and only 1 team in the same division – Lockwood Con A team. Their semi-final opponents were the Lockwood Con B team who are in Division 3.

Brockholes go into the final off 19 whilst Longwood start off 3, an advantage to Brockholes of 16 which is effectively 3 points per game. Can Brockholes pull off another giant killing act? No one would bet against it.

Almondbury Bowling Club stepped in to host the final at short notice but they’ll be ready for lots of vociferous supporters from Brockholes. The bar will be open all afternoon, the club are putting on tea, coffee and cakes from the kitchen. The weather is looking fair so we’re all set for an intriguing competition.
