It grieves me to report that David Sykes sadly passed away in his sleep overnight.

David, our current League Secretary and former Competition Secretary has been a stalwart of our Association for the past 10 years and lived and breathed the HVBA. He was on the case 24/7, often working late into the night with a glass of brandy by his side and no doubt a cigarette close by, and the moment he awoke was online checking everything was in order. He was awarded a Life Members certificate at the October ’24 presentation afternoon after  being given an overwhelming vote at the previous AGM.

The last year he has been plagued by ill health and was in the same hospital as his wife when she passed away, He was, nevertheless, integral in formulating the current fixture programme. He leaves a large hole to be filled.
