12 Sep EDDIE HAIGH 2023 OVER 80’S CHAMPION
On Friday 8 September the Over 80’s semi-finals and final saw Eddie Haigh of Lockwood Con fame lift the coveted trophy for the first time.
The preliminary rounds of the competition had been blighted by no shows resulting in bowlers getting to the quarter-finals without playing a game. It was therefore a relief for the organisers when all four semi-finalists turned up on a glorious final day at Golcar Liberal Club.
The semi-finalists were Eddie Haigh playing the current champion Frank Greenwood and Trevor Sykes of Marsh United taking on Manuel Martinho of Skelmanthorpe Windmill. Eddie Haigh and Trevor Sykes were the semi-final victors, the semis preceding the Julie Fuller Trophy giving the finalists a welcome break to take on liquids and have a well earned rest before the final.
The final was keenly contested with the lead swinging one way then the other. Eddie, as a current inter-district player was off scratch whilst Trevor had a 2 start. The final went Eddies way with a 21-18 victory.
