FINAL 27 SEPTEMBER

What has become the finale of the HVBA season takes place tomorrow 27 September at 1.30pm. It’s the fourth year of the John Hoyle Trophy, hosted by Huddersfield Recreation at their Moldgreen Con home with a stellar line-up of bowlers.

32 bowlers bowled down to the last 8 on the 20 September and there will be a new name on the trophy with last years winner, Gary Foulkes, defeated by Ray Whitwam to secure his place in the final. He’s joined by two Kirkheaton Con bowlers in Garry Senior and Tony Butterfield. Two from Cowcliffe making their first appearance in the final are Steve Cameron and Derek Hewitt are joined by Eddie Haigh of Lockwood Con, Roger Lunn of Waterloo and Tim Poulter of Clayton West who is hoping to go one step further this year.

Spectators will be joined by John Hoyle’s family who generously donated the trophy four years ago and provide all the prize money enabling the association to donate entry fees and other individual donations including £100 from the hosts to Kirkwood Hospice. The fund currently stands at over £800 and every effort will be made on the day to get this sum to our target of £1000 so there will be no escaping our raffle sellers. More donations to raffle prizes would also be appreciated.

Once again I finish this post by looking at the weather forecast and we’re all hoping that today’s rain has blown over by tomorrow but the Moldgreen Con green does feature their famous bus shelters around the green.
