03 Aug HUDDERSFIELD vs CASTLEFORD
We have to go back to 27 June for Huddersfield’s last match in the inter-district league. In the interim we have had the Hickson Trophy on 4 and 11 July then Huddersfield had a bye on the last fixture date 25 July. The current league table shows Huddersfield in fourth place on 159 points behind Leeds, Halifax and Aire and Wharfe on 188, 172 and 168 respectively. With 3 games to go Leeds are looking imperious but both Halifax and Aire and Wharfe have played a game more than Huddersfield so second place is looking a distinct possibility providing we don’t bomb the next matches against Castleford, Bradford and the last match versus West Riding.
Castleford are our next opponents and they’re holding up the rest of the league so we have to be looking for a convincing win, the home team are playing at Hemplow and the away team at Methley BC, start time is 1 pm.
The home team is Robert Dickinson, Tony Cross, Mick Chapman, Robert Spencer making his debut, Ray Whitwam, Graham Sigsworth and Andrew Wike. Reserves are Peter Hopkinson and Garry Senior. Non-playing captain Frank Greenwood and Manager David Armitage.
The away team is Roger Stopford, Tim Poulter, Dave Sykes, Dave Pollard, Tony Butterfield, Malcolm Gilbert (captain), Adrian Cooper and Edwin Haigh. Reserve Derek Hewitt.
