12 Aug HUDDS NARROW DEFEAT, BUT STILL IN CONTENTION
On Friday 11 August Huddersfield suffered their second consecutive defeat this season in the penultimate round of a very tightly contested league but are still in with a shout of the title thanks to their early season form. Bradford won the match 30-26 but other results meant that Huddersfield are second placed 8 points behind the seasons new comers Leeds.
Five teams could conceivably clinch the title on 1 September with 56 points up for grabs, the league table reads Leeds 214, Huddersfield 206, Halifax 204 (our next opponents), West Riding (the 2022 champions) and Bradford on 191. Skipton, Wakefield and Castleford fall in the ‘also ran’ category. The final matches are:
Huddersfield vs Halifax
Leeds vs Bradford
West Riding vs Skipton
Halifax have the strongest home team record whilst Leeds have an impressive 102 points away from home and the nearest challengers on away form are Huddersfield on 86 points. Both our Home and Away teams will need to go up a couple of gears to overcome a revitalised Halifax team and dent the lead of Leeds who themselves have a difficult task with Bradford still in good shape. West Riding have the easiest task on paper but with a huge deficit to overcome.
Three weeks until the final match will seem like an eternity for the managers and players to plot their final push for glory.
