HUDDS VICTORY IN LOCAL DERBY

Report by David Armitage, the Huddersfield home team manager.

A good win for the Huddersfield home side beating Halifax by 20 points to 8. 3 winners and 1 loser in each half. Good wins for Andy Carter and Peter Kain and a brilliant comeback for Stephen Haigh who was 13 – 2 down and won to 17. Robert Dickinson lost to 12 in a long game with his opponent getting 17 ones.

In the back four John Bloomer 17-13 down got three 2’s on the trot and won to 18. Big win for Tony Cross always in control and won to 10. Graham Sigsworth was well placed at 17-13 but stuck on 17 with his opponent running out with an 8 break. Ray Whitwam had a comfortable win to 11.

The away side only had 2 winners, there were some close games and only lost the aggregate by 15. They lost 18-10 but Huddersfield won overall 30-26.

The league table is distorted with the byes and it’s very tight at the top. Because there is an odd number of teams each team has a bye and the Huddersfield bye is the last fixture, so after our last match we need to be well clear at the top to have any chance of winning the trophy.

League table shows

Halifax 127, Huddersfield 126, Bradford 126, Aire & Wharfe 124. West Riding and Leeds have had their byes are also in contention with 93 & 90 points respectively.

Our next game is against Wakefield and we hope to pick up some useful points and open up a gap on Bradford who have a bye on that day.
