Our Association is donating £400 to Kirkwood Hospice.

The hospice is the chosen charity of John Hoyle’s family. 2022 is the second year that we have run the John Hoyle Trophy in memory of our President who passed away in 2020. The trophy has replaced the Elite Players trophy competed for by present and ex Inter-District players.

This is the second year that the competition was played at Huddersfield Recreation’s green, also the home of Moldgreen Cons, and Hudds Rec donated £100 to the cause. Further funds were raised by the entry fees of all the players, and raffles at both the final and the recent half-yearly meeting of club reps. The final sum was augmented by our association.

Mick Cox of Lockwood Cons was the first winner of the trophy in 2021 and he retained it in 2022.

John Hoyle’s playing career started at the ICI Recreation Club on Leeds Road, which later morphed into Zeneca and Syngenta and when their home moved to Moldgreen became became Huddersfield Recreation. John was instrumental in negotiating the move from Leeds Road to Moldgreen. John was also a key member of the Huddersfield Inter-District team until his untimely death.
