28 Apr JEFFREY’S OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT
On Friday 26 April I had the honour of honouring one of my own teammates for achieving the age of 90 and still actively bowling. Jeffery Oldroyd was 90 in February but he’s had to wait until the bowling season started to earn his Certificate of Achievement that the Association bestows on 90-year-old bowlers.
I can’t imagine a more enthusiastic bowler. He’s down at the Thongsbridge green every day of the week practicing and playing on the same day. On the day of the presentation he had a win in the 6-man C team of Thongsbridge and played again the evening in the Works League team Marshalls Landscaping Products where he didn’t quite make 21. He also plays in the Huddersfield Saturday league and the HVBA 10-man league.
Although we’d already celebrated his birthday at The Civic, Holmfirth where he enjoys short mat bowling twice a week his team captain Graham Helm had provided another birthday cake for the occasion. He was joined by his teammates from both the 6-man A and B teams.
