LAST CALL FOR ENTRIES

The entry deadline for the John Hoyle Memorial Trophy has been extended to midnight Tuesday 26 September. Bowlsnet is currently showing 25 but several more have entered through this site and the figure is now nudging towards 32 who will play the first round down to 8 on Thursday 28 September at Thongsbridge, scratch time is 1.30 prompt and the draw will be done immediately after in order to get the first four onto the green quicksticks.

This tournament has become the finale to the HVBA season and is now attracting more bowlers than ever since the entry requirements have been extended – see our earlier post https://www.hvba.co.uk/all-change-for-the-john-hoyle-trophy/. Due to the very generous sponsorship of the Hoyle family and an HVBA contribution the prizes are £80 for the winner, £50 for the runner-up, £25 for the semi-finalists and £10 for the quarter-final qualifiers. This allows the association to contribute all entry fees to the Kirkwood Hospice fund as per the family’s wishes.

The final is on Friday 6 October at Brockholes BC starting 1.30. Brockholes were honoured with John Hoyle bowling for them in his final years playing in the veterans league and also as a distinguished inter-district player representing Huddersfield. Several of John’s former teammates, including the writer, have also been allowed to enter this year along with the cream of Division 1 and 2 players.

Entries can be made on this website https://www.hvba.co.uk/competition-entry/. In the event of the entries exceeding 32 the preliminary round will be split between two greens but we will ensure that everyone gets a game and no one will qualify for the final courtesy of a ‘no show’.
