24 Sep LOCKWOOD CONS NEW BISTRO CHAMPIONS
On Thursday 22 September Lockwood Cons won the annual Bistro knockout competition for all teams in the 10-man league. Playing off scratch on another rainy day at Brockholes they proved a bridge too far for plucky Linthwaite Hall who had a start of 20 due to their Division 3 status.
The Bistro competition is a pairs competition with 5 pairs per team and the team with the highest aggregate score wins and if the match is tied with both teams having the same aggregate the team with the most wins takes the spoils.
Lowly Linthwaite Hall having a 20 point start could look to overthrow the mighty Lockwood Cons team which is studded with inter-district players. It was not to be however on the day with all the Lockwood Con pairs winning their matches and by some margin! By the half-time refreshments break the Division 1 team had already overcome the 20 point handicap and had a lead of 6 chalks.
This would have been a disappointing end of the season for Linthwaite Hall in their first year back in the veterans league but they can look back on a very successful season winning the Sub-Team Knockout and the Division 3 title and being runners-up in a 61 team competition.
