16 Aug NEW CHAMPIONS
Hemplow Bowling Club was the scene of a giant killing final on Friday 12 August. Neither of the contestants in the final had won the trophy before so there was always going to be a new name on the Shield.
Clayton West, a Division 2 side and clear underdogs took on the imperious Lockwood Con with both off a 4 handicap.
With all three pairs on the green at the same time the final swung decisively Clayton West’s way with a 21-4 victory of Keith Firth and Stuart Simmons over Colman Conneely and David Farrier. After that it was always going their way with Lockwood having such a large deficit to claw-back over the remaining two pairs. David Cooling and Mick Shore managed a consolation victory of 21-20 whilst the other match went 21-12 in favour of Clayton West.
