28 Apr NEW INTER-DISTRICT SEASON

The 2025 Yorkshire Inter-District Veterans Bowling League starts this coming Friday 2 May with Huddersfield facing the 2023 champions, Leeds.

The home team have chosen to start their campaign on the Meltham No.2 green and the team is:

Andy Carter, John Bloomer, Tony Cross, Mick Chapman, Robert Dickinson, Graham Sigsworth, Andy Wike and Ray Whitwam.

Reserves Peter Kain, Mark Richardson.

Frank Greenwood has agreed to continue the role of non-playing captain for this one match until a first team captain can be chosen from the current squad. The manager is David Armitage.

The away team, playing at Thorner will be chosen from D Pollard, R Stopford, T Poulter, E Haigh, G Senior, A Cooper, D Hewitt, P Hopkinson, S Mallinson and D Sykes. Malcolm Gilbert will again be captain and the new manager is the writer who hopes to have remembered all the Christian names by the time of the next report.

The home team have lost two stalwarts in Peter Kain and Alan Bamforth who are big boots to fill. They’ve been replaced in the squad by Mick Chapman and Keith Hatzer and we’re hoping to see another Stephen Haigh don the shirt during the current season. The away team have been augmented with the addition of Steve Mallinson and David Sykes.
