NEW YEAR GREETINGS

HVBA wish all our bowlers and officials at club and association level a very happy and healthy 2023.

Each of the last few years has brought it’s own challenges and we expect 2023 will do so as we endeavour to maintain our pre-eminence as one of the best and largest veterans bowling associations in the country. We have a dynamic league and each year teams enter whilst others withdraw. David Sykes, our League Secretary, is in the final throes of formulating leagues for the season where we know there will be more downs than ups due to our desire to balance the uneven league structure. Clubs have until 9 January to submit their entries and the Management Committee will discuss the league structures at it’s 16 January meeting.

2023 also introduces our new Competition Secretary Steve Lee to the challenges of increasing participation in the individual and pairs competitions. This is one of the associations most challenging roles and once Steven has the entries he has to cajole our clubs into hosting both preliminary rounds and the final on neutral greens and once the final is upon us preparing the programme and running the whole event.

Any help offered to both David and Steven in their roles would be greatly appreciated, it would be good having someone shadowing them with new ideas and it becoming more of a team effort.

Finally, the post of General Secretary is still vacant and applications of interest would be appreciated by the Management Committee, the writer can give a full resumé of the role and duties.
