04 Aug CURRENT OVER 80’s CHAMPION QUALIFIES FOR FINAL

The first preliminary rounds of the Over 80’s competition took place today at Marsh United and Paddock I&C. The qualifiers will be posted later and also on Bowlsnet but the current Champion and looking to extend his run of titles, our President Mr Frank Greenwood, admitted to a rusty performance winning with some 4 yard woods. He reports that the green at Marsh United soon dried out and offered a perfect playing surface.

There were 9 hopeful contestants so one preliminary round took place and eight bowlers played down to four. The quarter finals take place on Thursday 31 August and the semi-final and final on Friday 8 September, host greens to be nominated later.

The results from Marsh were:

Brian Faichney 5 Alan Stephenson 21 in the preliminary round, Frank Greenwood 21 Les Chadwick 18, John Cocking 21 Neil Small 14, Eddie Haigh 21 Baldwin Walsh 9, Alan Stephenson 21 Ray Clayton 18.

Results from Paddock were:

Frank Griffin 21 Bryan Cook 14, Trevor Sykes 21 Roy Sutton 12, Edwin Siswick and Manuel Martinho both qualified courtesy of no shows.
