OVER 80s & JULIE FULLER

Tomorrow, 21 July, we have two finals being played out on one day at Golcar Liberal Club starting 1.30 pm.

This is one of the most pleasant days in the Association calendar starring bowlers usually, but not always, playing in the lower echelons of our leagues. The day starts with two semi-finals of the Over 80’s individual trophy, followed by the final of the 6-man league Julie Fuller  trophy and that is followed by the final of the Over 80’s when hopefully the finalists will have recovered from their exertions in the semis.

The Over 80’s semi-finals pit Ken Whitaker of Thongsbridge Bowling Club B team who has a 6 handicap against Peter Clay of Almondbury Bowling Club B team playing off 7, and Graham Illingworth of David Brown Sports on 6 against Denis Garner of Netherton Con Club A team on 2. Whoever wins the prestigious trophy will be a new name on the plinth although Graham and Denis aren’t strangers to picking up trophies.

The Julie Fuller trophy final is sandwiched between the Over 80’s semis and final and features Broad Oak, a new team to the 6-man league, and Thongsbridge Bowling Club A team who were runners-up two years ago at the same venue. The three pairs matches will be played simultaneously, Thongsbridge having a 3 handicap and Broad Oak 7 that reflects their respective positions and Divisions 1 and 2. The winner is decided on total points scored and if level the team with the most matches won.
