18 Jul ROUND 5 AND NEW VENUE FOR HUDDERSFIELD
This coming Friday, 22 July brings Round 5 of the 2022 competition and Huddersfield are taking on West Riding, probably a championship decider. West Riding have a lead of 21 over Huddersfield but have played a game more. Even with 56 points available each match that’s a big gap to overhaul in one match with our fiercely competitive neighbours. Huddersfield do, however, have an advantage the last day of the season when West Riding have a bye.
Huddersfield have chosen to play their home match at Huddersfield Rugby Union Bowling Club rather than Thongsbridge and this is perhaps a tactic to catch out West Riding who have played Thongsbridge regularly in this league and the players will also have played the green in the Mirfield, Huddersfield and veterans league. Meanwhile West Riding have chosen Thornhill C&BC for their home match. This offers to be an enthralling encounter and we’re sure that Huddersfield RUBC will host a splendid occasion.
The two teams are:
Away at Thornhill C&BC: Donald Booth, Tony Butterfield, Malcolm Gilbert (C), Frank Griffin, Edwin Haigh, Derek Hewitt, Tim Poulter, Garry Senior. Reserves Dave Pollard, Roger Stopford.
Home at Huddersfield RUBC: (Lockwood Park) Alan Bamforth, John Bloomer, Robert Dickinson, Barry Gibson, Eddie Haigh, Peter Kain, Graham Sigsworth, Roland Swallow. Reserves Mick Cox, Peter Hopkinson.
Teams and reserves are listed in alphabetical sequence, playing order will be declared on match day.
The scene is set, all we can say now is BE THERE!
