SNOW STOPS MEETING

The Management Committee were due to meet today at Meltham to start planning for the veterans bowling season. There was a full turnout including our new Competition Secretary Steve Lee and John Pearman who has come forward with a view to taking over as General Secretary.

No sooner had the meeting started but the snow came down and the cricket field and surrounds soon had a good blanket covering. However, David Sykes our League Sec got around to presenting papers regarding both the 10-man and 6-man leagues.

We have had one 10-man team drop out leaving a nice round 60 teams which is likely to result in 5 x 12 team divisions. We’ve had an increase of four 6-man teams making a total of 36 which again will result in neat 12 team divisions. I say likely 12 team divisions as David has been asked to explore another format for when the meeting resumes next Monday. That’s 96 teams and more than a thousand bowlers turning out every week, how many leagues can boast that?

The 6-man league can look forward to the continuance of the Julie Fuller Trophy which has been sponsored for the last twenty years or so by Julie and Dennis Fuller but Frank Greenwood has now stepped forward to continue the sponsorship and maintaining the Fuller association.

More news will follow next week when the committee resume and determine the structure of our leagues and a renewed effort to increase participation in individual and pairs comps.
