19 Jan SUMMER BOWLING TASTER 2
The Inter-District matches kick off 2 May when Huddersfield will try and regain their preeminence in the competition having last won the grouse trophy in 2021 and sinking as low as 5th in last seasons competition.
It was felt that last year the draw gave Huddersfield a disadvantage by the team building up a healthy lead during the season but lots of teams lining up to pinch the trophy whilst Huddersfield had a bye on the last day of the season. This year the draw has been kinder as follows:
2nd May Leeds, 16th May Halifax, 30th May Aire & Wharfe, 13th Jun Wakefield, 27th Jun Skipton, 8th Aug Castleford, 22nd Aug Bradford, 5th Sep West Riding. It’s a tough start against the 2023 winners Leeds and a tough final match against the 2024 winners West Riding which could be a title decider. As usual the venues are a tightly guarded secret up until the Monday before the match.
The Huddersfield team are looking to strengthen to have a shot at the title and a trials match is being organised for Friday 28 March at Almondbury Libs.
On a suggestion from Alan Sharpe representing Huddersfield the league have decided to cascade the prize fund down to fifth position and after a generous sponsorship the last three positions will also see a return of some of the entry fee. Hopefully this will lead to more competitive matches throughout the league down to the last match with an increase of winnings being at stake. The league have also tightened the home player ruling which was open to interpretation but other than that it remains a nine team league of top class bowling.
