Walker flies home with vintage show – Over 80s results and photos

GORDON WALKER put in a classic show of Crown Green bowling to defeat Mick McCluskey in the Huddersfield Veterans Bowling Association Over 80s Final at Skelmanthorpe Windmill on Thursday (August 1).

The Kirkheaton Con bowler won the first two ends and with both bowlers starting with +2 handicaps he shot into a 5-2 advantage. McCluskey won the next two ends to level the scores.

However, Waterloo bowler McCluskey was only able to add three more to his tally as Walker, who was beaten finalist in 2019, 2021 and 2022, finally won in style winning each of the last four ends.

Earlier in the afternoon McCluskey had a fight on his hands to win his semi-final contest against Milnsbridge bowler Roy Sutton. Twenty-six ends were played in a match that finally finished 21-20 to McCluskey.

Trevor Sykes of Marsh United, the 2023 beaten finalist, was knocked out in the semi-finals losing 15-21 to Walker. That contest was quite tight with Walker 17-15 advantage before winning the last four ends to reach the final.
