04 May POSITIVE START TO CAMPAIGN
Huddersfield took a positive step starting the 2025 season by defeating Leeds in a tough first round encounter. Leeds won the title in 2023 and were Hickson Trophy winners in 2024.
The home team gave debuts to two new bowlers who both put in creditable performances. Mick Chapman was always in control winning to 10 whilst Mark Richardson was level pegging at the halfway stage but slipped to allbut 15 before rallying to win the game. The tightness of that game was the story of the match with the winners only gaining a narrow advantage but the two losers going down badly.
David Armitage, the home team manager felt it was a disappointing result for the Home team with 6 winners but only winning the aggregate by 4 points giving us 17 points to 11 overall.
The Away team went down narrowly 15-13. At the halfway stage it was two winners each with Leeds shading the aggregate by 2. The second half was a similar affair with two winners each and Leeds shading the aggregate by 6 and winning the overall battle by 8 which captain Malcolm Gilbert thought was an acceptable result on a difficult Thorner green.
The home team wish to thank Mick Pogson for preparing the green and providing excellent refreshments which was much appreciated by players and spectators.
